John Nicolson

John Nicolson is the regular alternate presenter of Live with Alastair Stewart

In 2003 he was co-presenter of the breakfast show on the relaunched LBC 97.3.

John is probably best known to viewers for his tough interviewing technique and dry humour on BBC Breakfast News, which he presented daily for two years. He went on to become a freelance news presenter on BBC News 24, co-winning a Foreign Press Association award for "Impressive coverage of the breaking news on September 11th". The story broke while John was on air on News 24 and BBC1.

He has reported for or presented many of the BBC's highest profile news and current affairs shows including Newsnight, Assignment, Panorama, Public Eye, and On The Record. John's also been a reporter on Watchdog, presented Healthcheck on BBC1 and has reported for the Holiday programme. He began his career working for Janet Street Porter's DEF 2 youth strand as presenter of the audience discussion programme Open to Question.

John was educated at Glasgow University and Harvard. He lives in Spitalfields in East London where he's restored a derelict 18th Century house. He describes architecture, music, politics and travel as his great passions.
